Cash Follows Clarity, QUESTION #2

Posted on April 1, 2009

I hope the questions included in this “Cash Follows Clarity” series will help you to get clear.  I mean, crystal clear . . . which is important because CASH FOLLOWS  CLARITY. Are you sure you want to take the leap?

QUESTION TWO:

What is the clearest thing about our business?

Asked another way, “What causes money to come in?  When it comes in, where does it go?  Why?”

This is a “macro” question for sure.  The goal here is to discern, “What are we really doing here?”  ”What is our true value, and why are people paying us for it?”  The more in touch you are with your true asset, the more you can leverage it.

Let’s make this even simpler.  There will always be value.  Though economies change, currencies ebb and flow, politicians squabble, and wars rage, value never goes away.  But if your business doesn’t provide value, it will die.  Therefore, the clearer you are on the value your business presents to the marketplace, the more likely it is you will stay on top.  Why?  Because there is no competition against your true asset.  If your business is built around this asset – or identity – there’s no stopping you.

WHAT DO I DO NOW?

We take clients through a very deliberate process of reinvention, which is a bit too ambitious for this entry.  But here’s a great exercise to help you to discover your true asset:

Pick 3-5 customers who you believe had a very good experience with your product or service.  Call them or meet with them in person.  Ask them these questions and take notes:

  1. What did you value most about our product / service?
  2. Why didn’t you go with our competitor?
  3. What service do we not provide that you wish we would?
  4. What else can I do to help you and your business succeed?
  5. Is there anything else you’d like me to know?
